Ghiaccio Bosco
Capalbio, Tuscany
Description:
N014 Capalbio Ghiaccio Bosco Map: 10c The turreted medieval village of Capalbio, perched on a hilltop, has the double advantage of being close to one of the prettiest seaside spots—Argentario—plus having the beautiful countryside and villages of Maremma to explore. Corinna and her daughter Monica, a local family, run an efficient little bed and breakfast operation, having left a long career in the restaurant business. Breakfast, composed of fresh homemade cakes, breads, and jams is served in the stone-walled dining room or out on the patio. Ten rooms in a row, each with independent entrance from the garden, are situated next door to the main house. They are nicely decorated in a uniform blue or pink color scheme, and have such amenities as television, telephone, hairdryer, and air conditioning. This comes in handy on hot summer evenings, although there is always a cool breeze passing through (hence the Etruscan name “Iced Woods”) as well as a recently added swimming pool. The farm property extends over 30 acres of olive groves, and fields of grain and oats. Not to be missed is an unforgettable meal at Tullio’s famed restaurant in town, run by relatives of the Olivi family. Directions: From Rome on the coastal highway 1, exit before Capalbio at Pescia Fiorentina. At Pescia stay left for 3 km. Ghiaccio is just 1 km after the fork for Manciano.
