In the hills between Tuscany and Umbria and overlooking the Tiber and Chiana valleys, is the Nannotti family’s typical farm property. Renato and Maria Teresa used to run a restaurant nearby before deciding to open a bed and breakfast and serve delicious Tuscan-Umbrian recipes at home. The two adjacent red-stone houses include five guestrooms, one apartment, and the family’s private quarters. Two rooms are on the ground floor, another has an upstairs terrace, and all are decorated in a simple, pleasant country style with a mix of armoires, wrought-iron beds, and some modern pieces. Renato specializes in organic produce and makes his own honey, jams, grappa, wine, and olive oil, which are brought directly to the dining-room table or served out under the porch. Maria Teresa creates an easy, informal ambiance and young daughter Aureliana and son Ernesto both help out. Being close to the charming, historical village and having easy access to the autostrada make this a super touring location. There are also bikes, a swimming pool, hiking trails, a special spa package at nearby thermal waters, a park for children, many farm animals, fitness track, and horses to ride. Directions: Exit at Chiusi from the north or Fabro from the south and follow signs for Citta della Pieve. In town follow signs for Ponticelli—the bed and breakfast is well marked before this town.
