The location of La Chiocciola bed and breakfast, minutes from the main tollway from Rome to Florence and on the border of the Lazio and Umbria regions, is ideal. Roberto and Maria Cristina from Rome bought the stone farmhouse dating back to 1400 several years ago and began restoration work while living in the newer house next door. The results of their efforts are four perfectly neat and spotless bedrooms in each of the two houses, a living room area for guests, and a large rustic dining room with outdoor veranda. Obvious care and attention has been put into the decorating of the air-conditioned bedrooms with wrought-iron canopy beds, crisp, white linen curtains, and botanical prints. The 50-acre property with fruit orchards and vineyards is part of the Tiber river valley and woods. There are bicycles and a swimming pool for guests’ use. Innumerable day trips and itineraries of special interest are offered in the area of Umbria and Lazio and it’s a 40-minute train ride to Rome. Directions: From Rome or Florence on the A1 autostrada, exit at Orte and turn immediately left for Orte, passing under the tollway. Continue in the direction of Orte and turn again for Amelia and repass over the tollway, taking the first left towards Penna in Teverina. La Chiocciola is 5 km along this road.
