Thirty kilometers from Parma are found the curative thermal waters of Salsomaggiore and just beyond town is the Antica Torre, the ancient 13th-century tower that majestically crowns a hilltop overlooking the soft green countryside. The Pavesi family, proprietors of the surrounding farm, offer warm hospitality to its guests within the tower. One bedroom with bath is located on each of the tower’s four floors and, in addition, the family has a large two-bedroom apartment available in the main house, ideal for a family. There are four additional apartments recently added within the stone residence. Rooms are simply decorated, and have lovely views over the valley. The barn has been converted into a pleasant dining room where fortunate guests sit down together to a hearty, homemade, Emiliana-style meal, including fresh pastas, vegetables, meat, and poultry direct from the farm (drinks not included in half-board rate). Parmesan cheese and prosciutto ham should not fail to sample while you’re in the region. Amenities include a swimming pool, bicycles, and horses.
