Country Home in Italy Scalvino–Lenna, Lombardy |
North of the beautifully austere ancient city of Bergamo, at the foothills of the Ortighera mountain range right on the River Brembo is the farm property of young local couple, Cinzia and Ferdy Quarteroni. They bought the stone farmhouse at the edge of thick woods, which dates to 1850, and completely restored it to include four guestrooms, their private quarters, dining rooms, and small store where they sell their home-produced goat cheeses. The cabin-like bedrooms on the two upper floors are simply decorated in tune with the natural features of the house: stone walls, wood-beamed ceilings, and brick floors. Downstairs in the cozy, arched, stone-walled dining room with large fireplace, gregarious Cinzia serves excellent local fare and an ample breakfast with freshly baked cakes and breads. This is a nature lover’s paradise where Ferdy sees to the goats and organizes itineraries by mountain bike, horse, or foot while nearby there are several ski resorts. This is a perfect vacation spot for families. Directions: From the A4 autostrada exit at Dalmine (35 km), heading north for Vila d’Almè, San Pellegrino, San Giovanni, and Scalvino. Ten km after San Pellegrino, the source of the famous mineral water, park on the right-hand side of road at the agriturismo sign and cross over the footbridge up to the house. Rates: B&B : 45 EUR per person Half board: 60 EUR per person Full board : 75 EUR per person
