Country Home in Italy Siracusa, Sicily |
The Limoneto was recommended to us by a reader who raved about the “open arms” hospitality, the excellent meals, comfortable accommodations, and proximity to fascinating Siracusa. We have to agree. At just 10 kilometers from the historical center of Siracusa with its Greek and Roman influences, the orange- and olive-grove farm is a perfectly delightful, safe, and economical base from which to explore Sicily’s southeastern corner. Adelina, Alceste, and son, Francesco, make guests part of their family. Guestrooms are split between the refurbished barn and part of the main house, all with individual entrances. Rooms, some for up to four persons, are new with pleasant modern decor and all have spotless bathrooms. Dinner is served either in the spacious dining room where locals come for a Sunday meal, or out in the back garden. You are welcome into Adelina’s kitchen to observe and participate in the making of typical regional meals using ingredients fresh from her garden. The warmth exudes and when the evening is just right and the limoncello flowing, she might even read some poetry. Truly unique is the boat tour on the river among the Papiro trees of Egyptian origin. Directions: From Catania, take the autostrada to Siracusa at km 152 after Limoneto brown sign. Drive towards Floridia on the S124 and turn left at the first intersection for Canicattini B. At the T-junction turn right again for Canicattini: the house is on the left after 4 km. Rates: Price for two persons B&B: 96 EURO
