In the gorgeous virgin territory of the Valdera Valley between stunning Volterra of Etruscan origins and Pisa where everything has remained remarkably unspoiled Sandro and his family bought the 100-acre farm property 25 years ago and are restoring the ancient farmhouses piece by piece with guests’ comfort foremost in mind. So far, six neat apartments with one or two bedrooms and four guest bedrooms have been completed within three adjacent stone houses and are tastefully appointed with local antiques. Within one of the houses is the pleasant dining room with large arched windows where breakfast and dinners upon request are served, all prepared by Sandro’s mother, who also conducts cooking lessons. Olive oil, wine, fruits, and vegetables all come directly from the farm. There is a beautiful borderless swimming pool and Sandro supplies guests with mountain bikes and a long list of interesting local itineraries. Easy day trips include Florence, Siena, San Gimignano, Lucca, Pisa and Volterra, famous for its alabastor artisans. Directions: Il Selvino is conveniently located off the main road 439 from Volterra (20 km) between Terricciola and La Sterza at Pieve a Pitti (marked on most maps).
